There is a reason folks bypass other brands, and go straight for the Samsungs when buying a monitor. Higher standards.
Although I did not purchase these from Amazon (scared to have monitors shipped through mail), this is the 3rd set of 2 monitors I have owned that are Samsung. My first 17" LCD set are still kicking and vibrant.
First, I'd like to give my view of a couple things that seem to bother other reviewers of like Samsung models.
Hidden touch sensor controls: LOVE THEM! They keep the sharp looking bezel uncluttered and sleek looking, and work quite well. If you are the type of person who constantly fidgets with your monitor...they may not be for you.
Piano Black finish: Gotta say I like it...some people call piano black items "dust and fingerprint magnets"....well, I'm not constantly adjusting the angle of my monitor, and keep all my pc equipment clean, so there is no problems here.
LED brightness: I see tons of folks in all monitor reviews complain about how a monitor doesn't "look right" or is "too bright" out of the box, and how long it took them to get passable results. Folks, there are adjustment buttons and software to get the picture exactly the way YOU want it... use it! What is too bright for one person is not bright enough for another. What has too much of a blue tint for one, doesn't have enough for another. Every person has a different idea for what they want...don't expect the manufacturer to read your mind. This monitor has a nice clear, bright picture. Text displays well, and I have noticed no ghosting on any game I play. I find the controls and software to be quite easy to use, and able to get the job done. No dead pixels (I've haven't had one on a Samsung yet). Price is right... they keep dropping on LEDS.
Now for the bad...I can't believe Samsung ships a 24" 1080p monitor with nothing more than a VGA cable. This is 2011 people! All my other Samsungs came with VGA and DVI cables. I can't believe Samsung wanted to save $4 at the expense of customer loyalty. I've bought $99 no-name monitors that came with VGA and DVI cables. If you have a decent video card, you will want to purchase a DVI cable. This monitor has no HDMI output, but DVI to HDMI cables or HDMI adapters can be found quite cheap at that auction site.
Would be nice if these motors had height adjustment, but I knew they didn't going in. Height adjustment seems to be quite rare these days, and command an extra $50-$100 for that feature alone from most manufactures. The top of this 24" unit stands about 1" lower than my old 22" monitors with height adjusted to its highest point. Not really a lot to get used to, and not worth the extra $$ for another inch or so in height.
I'd recommend this monitor quite highly. Check out reviews for other brands.... constant quips about dead pixels, uneven color/washed out color, blurry text, etc.... When you read the SAMSUNG reviews, any gripes are more prone to be about buttons or how the stand looks....you don't hear too many complaints about picture quality.
