(More customer reviews)I first connected this monitor to my old analog VGA card. It looked good, but the text looked very "anti-aliased", which is to say that the edges were a bit soft. I went out and purchased an NVidia card that had a DVI output, and connected the Samsung to that. What a difference! This is what computing should be about. The 17" monitor is big enough so that the native 1280x1024 resolution is very usable. Fonts are easily readable, and this is so crisp I can hardly go back to a CRT when I go to work every day.
If you need to use an LCD in analog mode, look at Viewsonic instead. Their analog to digital translation has always been great. However, if you can get a DVI video interface on your PC, this is the monitor to have.
I use this monitor under RedHat 7.3, and it works great.

Samsung's sleek and stylish 170T is a high-quality 17-inch (17-inch viewable) LCD TFT monitor well-suited to a wide variety of professional and home office uses. With a maximum 1,280 x 1,024 dpi resolution, 0.26mm dot pitch, and 85 Hz maximum vertical frequency, images onscreen are incredibly crisp and clean. A 400:1 contrast ratio and 220 cc/m2 of brightness result in vivid, bright, true-to-life graphics. A number of onscreen digital controls are included for ease of use, including contrast, brightness, H/V position, H/V size, color temperature, and recall. Dual analog (15-pin mini d-sub) and digital (DVI) video inputs are provided, while 160 degrees of both tilt and swivel allow users to find the perfect viewing angle. Plug-and-play compatible, the 170T is ready to use right out of the box, making setup a snap, while a single auto-calibration button makes getting the right screen settings quick and easy. The 170T is Energy Star, NUTEK, and VESA compliant with a maximum power consumption of 40 watts (5 watts on standby).
The 170T connects to Mac, Sun Microsystem, and PC systems. It weighs around 18.5 pounds with a small 17.3-inch-by-7.2-inch footprint. The 170T also comes with a generous three-year warranty on parts and labor.
