I ordered this item as part #MR16R0828BN1-CK8 800-45 to match memory mod-
ules and upgrade a Gateway Tower Model E-4600 w/Windows ME. Seller shipped
me P/N MR18R082GAN1-CK8 800-45, which is ECC. MR16 means non-ECC, MR18 is
ECC. I found out my motherboard DOES support ECC Rambus. Despite mismatch
with other 2 non-ECC modules on-board, did work fine.
After realizing this wanting to upgrade my memory even more, I made sure that the seller had the actual part number I wanted and received it. Now
I have 1.5Gb in this PC of ECC Samsung Rambus.
When you buy ANY Rambus modules, you MUST use them in identical pairs, be
the same fsb and internal speed (e.g.- 800-45), the same mfr., and should
all be non-ECC OR ECC if your motherboard supports it for guaranteed com-
patibility and best performance or you WILL encounter memory errors and
problems running software. This PC has many applications and the peculiar
distinction of a barely supported OS- Windows ME. Very hard to upgrade to
newer versions of programs, sometimes impossible. Anyone I read who used
the upgrade to XP had nothing but problems getting it to work. I'm keeping
it w/ME and doing everything I can to improve what I have. So far w/good
results. The Samsung memory upgrades allowed me to install and run needed
firewall and virus programs, both memory intensive.
